Subject and Object

In English sentences, normally one thing (1) does something to another thing (2). So 1 does the action and 2 receives it.  

E.g.         I (1) kicked the ball (2).

The girl (1) drove into the tree (2).

                He (1) hit us (2) with a bat.

Below is a table of subjects and objects.

They Them

 

This information is important to know if you want to study passive voice structures. The passive voice is used frequently in formal written English, newspapers etc.
